Trip resumption after an unexpected return home

Depending on the policy you bought and the circumstances in which you had to return home, we may pay for you to resume your trip.

As we’ve recently changed our insurer, please select the date you bought your policy:

Policies purchased on or after 1 Nov 2018 (GMT)

Policies purchased before 1 Nov 2018 (GMT)

For policies purchased on or after 1 Nov 2018:

What’s covered (Explorer Plan only)

We may pay for your reasonable additional travel expenses (Economy class) for you to resume your trip to the destination where you would have been (according to your original travel plan at the time you are resuming your trip) if you are:
  • repatriated home due to an accidental injury or serious illness; or
  • if you have had to return home due to the accidental injury, serious illness, death of a close relative (as defined in the policy wording) of yours.

Trip resumption cover is not available to travellers with the Standard Plan.

How it works

If you wish to resume your trip, you must advise us within 30 days of your return home.
Provided your policy is the Explorer Plan and it is still valid (that is, it’s the same policy that covered your unexpected return home and has not expired), and we’ve agreed to cover your additional travel expenses to get you back to your adventures, you may have cover for the Trip Resumption benefit.

What’s not covered

Travel insurance is not designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the Policy wording for full terms and conditions, limits to cover and exclusions, so there are no surprises if you do need to use it.
Here are some of the main things that aren’t covered:
  • If the incident causing your return home was not covered under this policy.
  • Resumption of the trip if it does not take place within the same insurance period as the incident.
  • Any further expenses incurred as a result of the medical condition which resulted in your return home. The medical condition that caused you to return home will be deemed a pre-existing medical condition at the time you resume your trip.

Note: For policies purchased on or after 1 August 2019, your World Nomads policy is underwritten by XL Catlin Insurance Company UK Limited. For policies purchased between 1 November 2018 and 31 July 2019, your World Nomads policy is underwritten by certain underwriters at Lloyd’s.

For policies purchased before 1 Nov 2018:
