As we’ve recently changed our insurer, please select the date you bought your policy:
Policies purchased on or after 1 Nov 2018 (GMT)
Policies purchased before 1 Nov 2018 (GMT)
For policies purchased on or after 1 Nov 2018:
When you buy your policy, just tell us which countries or regions you plan to travel to. If you’re travelling to many countries, you can simply add the entire region (e.g. Asia) to your policy, without having to list each country.
However, if you forget a country or change your mind, you may still be covered as long as the country or region is the same region of cover or lower as your policy (or, in insurance terms, the same risk or lower).
The best way to find out is to contact customer service.
Can I upgrade my policy?
It’s not possible to upgrade or add another higher priced region to your policy after you buy it. If you’re still within the 14 day cooling off period and you haven’t already left the United Kingdom, you can cancel for a full refund and re-purchase your policy. If you’ve already left home or are outside of the cooling off period, contact customer service.
Note: For policies purchased on or after 1 August 2019, your World Nomads policy is underwritten by XL Catlin Insurance Company UK Limited. For policies purchased between 1 November 2018 and 31 July 2019, your World Nomads policy is underwritten by certain underwriters at Lloyd’s.
For policies purchased before 1 Nov 2018:
You can only add the countries you plan to travel to at the time of purchase. However, rather than covering you just for these specific countries, it is actually the region that they are in.
Also, we’ll cover you for regions we consider to be ‘lower risk’ than the one you have on your policy.
For example, if you list Canada or China (Eastern Asia) as countries you’ll travel to when getting a quote, this would be the region ‘Worldwide – including the United States of America, Canada, The Caribbean & Eastern Asia’. This policy will cover you for all countries you wish to travel to even if they are not listed.
If you choose Germany or Italy as your destinations when getting a quote and buying your policy, then you’ll be covered in all European countries, even if not listed on your policy certificate. You won’t be covered to travel anywhere outside of Europe though.
There are 4 regions of cover:
1. Australia/New Zealand
3. Worldwide – including the United States of America, Canada, The Caribbean & Eastern Asia
4. Worldwide - excluding the United States of America, Canada, The Caribbean & Eastern Asia
If you choose a country or region that fits into destination 3 or 4 then you would be covered to travel in Australia, New Zealand and Europe also (even if these countries are not listed as these regions are lower risk).
Need to know what countries are in each region eg what countries are in Eastern Asia or Europe? You'll find a list in the definitions section in the policy wording.
Note: For policies purchased before 1 Nov 2018, your World Nomads policy is backed by Millstream.
