Am I covered by travel insurance if I'm pregnant?

Yes, pregnancy is covered by the policy, although be aware there are restrictions to this cover.

What’s covered

If you suffer an accidental bodily injury or unexpected illness causing pregnancy complications while travelling abroad, there’s cover for emergency medical expenses including surgical treatment and hospital charges.

However, please be aware that any medical expenses incurred for pregnancy complications within the period between 12 weeks before and 12 weeks after your estimated date of delivery are not covered under this policy.

What’s not covered

The policy isn’t designed to cover everything. Take the time to read your policy wording for full details on what is and isn’t covered. That way there are no surprises if you need to use it.

Here are some of the main things that aren’t covered relating to pregnancy:
  • Medical expenses for pregnancy complications if they occur within 12 weeks of your estimated date of delivery.
  • Medical expenses for pregnancy complications if they occur up to 12 weeks after your estimated date of delivery.
  • Any expenses related to routine ante-natal care or post-natal care.
  • Normal costs or losses associated with a single or multiple pregnancy or childbirth including but not limited to, delivery by caesarean section or any other medically or surgically assisted delivery which does not cause complications.
  • Anything else that’s listed in the General Exclusions and other exclusions in the policy wording relating to pregnancy.
