Travel Insurance: What is my country of residence?

Your country of permanent residence is the country you would want to be repatriated to in the event of a medical emergency, and where you are entitled to long term health care if required.

As we’ve recently changed our insurer, please select the date you bought your policy to understand who is eligible for cover:

Policies purchased on or after 1 August 2019 (GMT)

Policies purchased between 1 Nov 2018 and 31 July 2019 (GMT)

Policies purchased before 1 Nov 2018 (GMT)
 


 

For policies purchased on or after 1 August 2019:

You are eligible for cover under this insurance if you normally live in the UK and you: 

  • will be 64 years old or younger at the time you buy or extend your policy; and

  • have unrestricted right of entry into the United Kingdom; and

  • have access to long-term medical care in the United Kingdom; and 

  • have a permanent residential address in the United Kingdom.  

Please be aware that your policy can’t cover any expenses incurred within the UK. 

All people on a policy must also live in the UK. If you are travelling with people from different countries of residence, they will have to buy separate policies, which may have different terms and conditions of cover.

Note: For policies purchased on or after 1 August 2019, your World Nomads policy is underwritten by XL Catlin Insurance Company UK Limited.
 

For policies purchased on or after 1 Nov 2018:

You are eligible for cover under this insurance with the United Kingdom as your country of residence, You are eligible for cover under this insurance if you are a UK citizen or resident of the United Kingdom and you:
  • will be 64 years old or younger at the time you buy or extend your policy; and
  • have unrestricted right of entry into the United Kingdom; and
  • have access to long-term medical care in the United Kingdom; and
  • have a permanent residential address in the United Kingdom. 
For clarity, here are the definitions of an UK citizen or resident:

UK citizen:

For the purpose of this policy, a person with a United Kingdom passport which describes the holder as a UK citizen, with a permanent residential address in the United Kingdom, and with unrestricted right of entry to the United Kingdom.

UK Resident:

A holder of a UK residency visa with:

  1. unrestricted right of entry into the United Kingdom, and
  2. access to long-term medical care in the United Kingdom, and
  3. a permanent residential address in the United Kingdom.

 

Please be aware that your policy can’t cover any expenses incurred within your country of residence.

All people on a policy must be from the same country of residence. And, if you are travelling with people from different countries of residence, they will have to buy separate policies to cover their country of residence, which may have different terms and conditions of cover.

Each policy has specific conditions or definitions of residence, so do read the policy wording carefully for full details.

For policies purchased before 1 Nov 2018:

To qualify as a UK or Irish resident, your country of permanent residence is where you are a:

  1. UK or Irish citizen with a passport, a residential home address in the UK or Ireland and unrestricted right of entry back into this country once you depart. You may be currently at home, travelling or residing in another country at the time the policy is purchased; OR
  2. UK or Irish permanent resident, at home in the UK or Ireland at the time the policy is purchased at your usual permanent residential address. You will have unrestricted right of entry back into this country once you depart. If you are a permanent resident travelling or living away from home in another country, you cannot be covered under this policy.

Please be aware that your policy can’t cover any expenses incurred within your country permanent residence.

Each policy has specific conditions or definitions of residence, so do read the policy wording carefully to see if you’re eligible to buy it.

Also, if you are travelling with people from different countries of residence, they will have to buy separate policies to cover their country of residence, which may have different terms and conditions of cover.
