We know there’s nothing more exciting than heading overseas with a ticket in your back pocket. So we designed our policies to cover more than 200 activities and events including casual bar work, skiing, zorbing and much more.
Our policies come with loads of benefits depending on the policy that you buy, but all of them cover:
The maximum duration available for any policy, including extensions, is 12 months (366 days) from the start date shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
You can buy cover for longer, even if you’re already on the road. Cover on World Nomads policy is available for up to one year, but if you want to extend your trip beyond one year, you just need to jump online to get a quote for another policy.
Be sure to revisit the eligibility criteria and key definitions such as ‘country of residence’ and ‘home’, as these and other terms and conditions have recently changed. We regularly review and change our policies and the cover we offer, so be sure that the cover still meets your needs each time you purchase.
You can’t upgrade your policy type once you’ve departed and started your holiday, so you’ll have to buy a new policy if you need more coverage. That’s why it’s critical you select the right level of cover up front.
Please note: If you plan to extend your policy you should do so several days before it expires, due to time differences and possible administrative delays. If your policy is extended, we will issue you with an updated Certificate of Insurance.
There are a a number of other exclusions so make sure you read your policy and know what you aren’t covered for. Exclsuions include but aren't limited to:
It’s important to remember that World Nomads offers travel insurance… not medical/health insurance. That means our policies won’t cover you for pre-existing medical conditions or ongoing medical care (we'll patch you up and send you home).
I was held up at gunpoint, on a bus journey between Belem and Teresina in Brazil. My entire rucksack and contents were stolen, and items on me were taken also. We spent the next day at the police station, and have statements from the police and bus company

World Nomads policies cannot cover claims due to Pre-Existing Medical Conditions (PEMC), regardless of whether the condition is serious or not (this includes if you're on separate or joint policies). You can still purchase a World Nomads policy, but the PEMC exclusion is not removable.
For travel insurance providers that offer cover on PEMC, visit the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) Money Helper website, or call 0800 138 7777. BIBA's (The British Insurance Brokers' Association) Find Insurance Service offers information on serious PEMCs and travel insurance providers that may cover these conditions. You can also contact them on 0370 950 1790.
